Who can be in the Bluecoats Band of Excellence?

Anyone! Well, almost anyone! In order to be in the Bluecoats Band of Excellence you must be a high school-aged* musician studying one of the following band instruments:

  • Brass

    • Trumpet

    • Mellophone / Marching French Horn

    • Marching Baritone / Marching Euphonium / Trombone

    • Marching Tuba / Sousaphone

  • Woodwinds

    • Piccolo / Flute

    • Clarinet

    • Alto Saxophone / Tenor Saxophone / Baritone Saxophone

  • Marching Percussion

    • Marching Snare Drum

    • Marching Toms / Marching Tenor Drums

    • Marching Bass Drum

  • Colorguard

    • Flag

The Bluecoats Band of Excellence takes place in a fast-paced environment with a performance on the world stage! We’re expecting students to have experience in high school marching band and to come ready to learn and perform at a high level!

* High-school aged musicians will be considered those entering their first year of high school through students who have just completed their senior year.


Where can my parents/guardians get tickets to the NFL Hall of Fame Game?

Hurry - tickets sell fast! You can purchase tickets to watch the Bluecoats Band of Excellence (and the Falcons and Broncos…) perform at profootballhof.com.


Are accomodations provided before or after the event?

Bluecoats can only provide accomodations for registered participants on the night of July 31st. Housing will be in dormitories at Malone University in Canton, OH. If you are traveling from a far distance you may have to find accomodations on your own for the 30th or night of August 1st. Information about hotels and traveling to Canton during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival can be found at profootballhof.com.


What will the Band of Excellence rehearse & perform?

The Bluecoats educational staff is comprised of some of the finest band educators from around the world. Students in the Band of Excellence will spend two days rehearsing the techniques and materials used by the world champion Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps to achieve their best.

The Band of Excellence will perform pre-game material alongside the 2019 Bluecoats during the official pre-game ceremonies of the 2019 NFL Hall of Fame Game!


Who is playing in the NFL Hall of Fame Game?

This year the annual NFL Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, OH features the Atlanta Falcons vs. the Denver Broncos!


What do I need to bring?

  • Your instrument and all necessary accessories (gloves, mouthpiece, reeds, etc.)

  • Comfortable athletic shoes

  • Comfortable clothes for outdoor rehearsal for two days

  • Sunscreen, water bottle, and hearing protection

  • Printed rehearsal materials (to be emailed at a later date)

  • Any necessary medication (don’t forget an epi-pen if you use one!)

  • You DO NOT need to bring a pillow, blankets, or towels. Linens will be provided.


Will meals be provided?

What about dietary restrictions & allergies?

The following meals will be provided:

  • Lunch on July 31st

  • Dinner on July 31st

  • Breakfast on August 1st

  • Lunch on August 1st

  • Dinner on August 1st

When registering, you will be asked to provide any allergy or dietary restriction information necessary and Bluecoats will make every attempt to accomodate.


When will music and other materials be sent?

We will email materials out closer to the event. You should not expect them until at least mid-June.
