Bluecoats, Inc. is seeking to hire two contractors to serve the role of Assistant Tour Manager. These positions will manage the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps’ daily operations during Spring Training and the summer tour. The position will report to the Tour Manager. The Assistant Tour Managers will execute the daily functions of the operations team including coordinating and executing shopping, ground transportation, medical operations support, rehearsal and staff operations support, and tour facilities communication and support. They will also coordinate planning and communication with our rehearsal and housing facilities, communicate with our housing partners, and coordinate our travel efforts on the ground with our driving team.

Qualified candidates will have previous experience with drum corps touring, or a professional performance tour in theater, live music, or similar genre.

We’re particularly excited to hire an operations team that has a love of drum corps, and an eagerness to look at world-class tour management with fresh eyes, an industrious spirit and an understanding of the intense rigors of daily drum corps operations.   • Execute the daily functions of a drum corps tour including food procurement, ground transportation, medical operations support, fleet maintenance support, rehearsal and performance operations support, daily communication and coordination with housing and rehearsal facilities officials, and fulfillment of instructional, administrative, volunteer, and design staff needs.

  • Execute pre-planning communication with rehearsal and housing site officials.

  • Execute the nightly move-in and all related communication and planning.

  • Execute general administrative work including planning, communication, related paperwork, deposit preparation, and development of maps, schedules, and plans.

  • Park the drum corps at performance venues.

  • Closely work with Tour Operations Interns to create a seamless, dynamic, and straightforward execution of the day’s tasks.

  • Support the Foodservice Team as necessary.

  • Support the Medical Team as necessary.

  • Reports directly to Tour Manager.


  • Demonstrate clear and commanding understanding of the responsibilities of world-class drum corps tour management.

  • At least one year of tour operations experience in drum corps or other suitable management experience.

  • Be great a written communication - straightforward, clear, and correct. Be eager to communicate often in written and verbal form.

  • An absolute pro at using technology to plan, coordinate, organize, and communicate. Experience with tools such as Slack, GSuite,, Asana, and Evernote is a plus.

  • Commitment to safety in drum corps.

  • Submission of required background check and Participant Safety Agreement.

Mike Scott

Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator.
