Tour Manager

Contractor - Touring

Bluecoats, Inc. is seeking to hire a contractor to serve in the role of Tour Manager, and oversee the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps’ general operations, Spring Training, and the summer tour. This person will manage the drum corps’ Operations Team including two Assistant Tour Managers and 1-3 Tour Operations Interns. Additionally the Tour Manager will manage, the Foodservice Manager and team and the Transportation Manager and driving team.

Qualified candidates will have previous experience managing a world class drum corps tour, or a professional performance tour in theater, live music, or similar genre.

This person understands the charisma needed to manage a team of this size, and to lead the Bluecoats toward the positive, life-changing Bluecoats Experience our participants and staff expect.


  • Manage the operations team, including two Assistant Tour Managers (day & night shifts), 1-3 operations interns, and the Transportation Manager and driving team (including volunteer drivers).

    • This management includes daily planning and coordination of the team and their individual responsibilities, daily communication of the tour plan to all related parties, daily communication with external parties such as housing and facilities hosts, and daily execution of the tour.

    • Schedule, plan, and facilitate a daily Operations Team meeting.

  • Serve as the face of the drum corps’ leadership to a variety of constituencies including DCI personnel, housing and rehearsal facility contacts, and show site contacts

  • Connect the tour operations faculties with the instruction and design teams to create a seamless operation and ensure the success of staff and participants.

    • Attend daily staff meetings and present current operational constraints and facilities and field requests of the team.

  • Provide oversight and coordination efforts with the Foodservice Team. This includes working closely with the Foodservice Manager and Asst. Manager, clearly communicating operational plan, and navigating the logistical challenges presented by serving 900 meals per day on a moving tour.

  • Coordinate with the Merchandise Managers to ensure a successful and secure merchandise operation while on tour.

  • Reports directly to CEO and CFO/COO.


  • Demonstrate clear and commanding understanding of the responsibilities of world-class drum corps tour management.

  • At least two years of tour management experience at a world-class drum corps or other suitable management experience.

  • Be great a written communication - straightforward, clear, and correct. Be eager to communicate often in written and verbal form.

  • An absolute pro at using technology to plan, coordinate, organize, and communicate. Experience with tools such as Slack, GSuite,, Asana, and Evernote is a plus.

    • Experience with Salesforce is a huge bonus!

  • Knowledge of current DOT touring laws and regulations, general knowledge of the intricate constraints of drum corps, and experience in providing a safe environment for young people.

  • Submission of required background check and Participant Safety Agreement.

Mike Scott

Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator.
