Spend the weekend with the 2019 Bluecoats! Participants at THE BLUE WAY Summer Educational Experience move-in with the corps, spend a weekend rehearsing and socializing with the corps, and even get to perform a portion of the top secret 2019 show music with the Bluecoats!

Schedule

  • June 8th

    • 9:00a – Event Registration Opens

    • 10:00a – Kick-off

    • 11:00p – Lights Out!

  • June 9th

    • 1:00p – Bluecoats Marketplace Opens

    • 2:00p – Show & Tell Performance w/ Bluecoats – featuring music from Bloo19 Production!

Students will receive:

  • Dormitory housing for one night on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University

  • All meals provided by the Bluecoats food truck. (You’ll even eat alongside the corps!)

  • THE BLUE WAY Tee

  • One pair of Innovative Percussion drumsticks (for percussion students)

  • “THE BLUE WAY” Instructional Book for brass and percussion (download link sent at later date)

  • Instruction with Bluecoats staff and additional instructional materials

In addition to the world-class instructional staff at Bluecoats, the event will be managed by:

  • Mike Scott, Bluecoats Chief Executive Officer

  • Samuel Crawford, Educational Events Manager

  • Charles Stewart – THE BLUE WAY Conducting and Leadership Director

  • Bill Hamilton – Corps Manager

  • Cody Schuster – Assoc. Tour Manager

  • A world-class drum major and leadership team

Parent information:

  • Parents are more than welcome to visit the clinic throughout both days.

  • Housing for parents can be secured at one of several hotels in the Marion, IN and surrounding area.

  • Once on campus, follow Bluecoats event signs to the registration area at the Barnes Student Center

  • Flight & Shuttle Information

    • You may fly into Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) no later than 9:01 AM EST on Saturday, June 9th.

    • Please arrange departing flights for no earlier than 6:00 PM EST on Sunday, June 10th.

    • To arrange transportation to and from the airport, or local bus/train stations – please email transportation@bluecoats.com. Include the following information in your email:

      • Name

        Indicate that you are a “THE BLUE WAY” participant

        Destination (i.e. Fort Wayne Airport, Bus Station, etc.)

        Airline / Bus Company

        Flight # / Bus #

        Arrival Day / Time and Departure Day / Time

  • Note – we cannot provide overnight housing on Friday, June 7th. Please arrange a stay at a local hotel.

WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD BRING

  • Running shoes/sneakers

  • Lightweight athletic clothes for day

  • Warm athletic clothes for night

  • Sunscreen!

  • Large water bottle

  • Pajamas

  • Toiletries/Shower items & towel

  • Bedding (no linens are provided)

  • Drum Major students should bring:

    • Notebook

    • Pencils

    • Baton (optional)

  • Snare/Tenor students should bring:

    • Snare or Tenor Drum

    • Drum stand or carrier

    • Extra pair of sticks

    • Pencil

  • Brass students should bring:

    • Trumpet, Mellophone, Baritone/Euphonium, or Tuba/Sousaphone

    • Mouthpiece

  • Guard students should bring the following:

    • 6′ flag

    • Rifle (optional)

    • Sabre (optional)

    • Clothes appropriate for movement/dancing


ABOUT THE INTERACTIVE DRUM MAJOR CLINIC

Led by former Jeffersontown High School (KY) Director of Bands and former Bluecoats drum major  Charles Stewart, students attending the 2019 Interactive Clinic for Drum Majors will cover the following key areas to help them prepare for their role as drum major for high school or college:

  • Student Leadership Training & Development

  • Effective Audition Preparation

  • Conducting fundamentals

  • Expressive & Non-verbal communication

  • Conducting a “Live” Ensemble

  • Verbal Commands & Salutes
