Audio Systems Technician/RF Engineer - A2

Contractor

Bluecoats, Inc. is seeking an experienced audio engineer for an A2 position. This is a touring position as an independent contractor. Candidates will report the Lead Audio Engineer and the Audio Systems Designer. If selected, you will have the experience of touring with a world-class production act and crew, and will gain hands-on experience with professional audio equipment and implementation strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help to build the audio system and maintain said system throughout spring training and the summer tour

  • Run RF position during shows and manage frequency coordination at show sites

  • Must coordinate with onsite frequency coordinator when there is one

  • Interact with students on how to implement wireless packs and microphones onto instruments

  • Coordinate with various staff members on how to best fit gear onto specific instruments

  • Daily distribution and collection of wireless packs

  • Be able to mix the show as a backup to the FOH engineer.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of audio signal flow

  • Know how to mix a live show

  • Knowledge of RF wireless gear (mainly from Shure) and how to use Wireless Workbench/IAS

  • General knowledge of IT networking as it pertains to AV applications

  • General knowledge of power and how to test with metering equipment

  • Be able to solder and make XLR/Power/and Data cables

  • Be able to efficiently handle issues that may arise in high-stress environments

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in high stress/high volume environments, as well as

    normal day to day operations with multiple other staff members and caption heads

  • Must be able to lift >50 lbs.

  • Good time management and be able to move at a quick pace.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous knowledge or experience in drum corps

  • Previous touring experience

  • Some knowledge of Mainstage and how audio and midi interfaces are used with said program

COMPENSATION RANGE & BENEFITS

  • $500 per week

  • Contractor will travel to Bluecoats programming at Bluecoats’ expense

  • Travel, food, and accommodations are provided for the length of the engagement

Mike Scott
Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator. He has also served as the tour manager of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Mike proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Etymotic Research, and Fred J. Miller Inc.
