This is the Bluecoats’ second invitation to represent the US at the event.

The Bluecoats are returning to Hong Kong for the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade! The corps will take 32 performers and 6 staff to Hong Kong, where the ensemble will perform selections from its 2018 DCI bronze medal production Session 44. This is the Bluecoats second invitation to the Chinese New Year Night Parade, a trip that takes the students and staff of Bluecoats more than 15,000 miles to the other side of the world. Joining the Bluecoats from the United States are the Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders. Bluecoats last performed in Hong Kong in January 2017 following the corps’ first DCI World Championship.

Being able to take a portion of the corps out onto the world stage for one last run of Session 44 is going to be thrilling,” said Mike Scott, CEO of Bluecoats. CFO/COO Genevieve Geisler continued, “It’s an honor to be invited to participate in the Hong Kong New Year Parade for a second time. We can’t wait to experience this wonderful city again!”

The corps will converge in Chicago on February 1st for rehearsal before departing for Hong Kong on February 2nd. The corps’ parade performance takes place at 8:00 pm local time in Hong Kong on February 5th. Nearly 200,000 spectators are expected to be seated along the parade route. Following some free time enjoying the city, the Bluecoats will perform a standstill performance near the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees on February 7th.  Throughout the week, the corps will be performing alongside Pegasus Vanguard, a Hong Kong-based marching band founded in 2010.  Bluecoats and Pegasus Vanguard formed a fast friendship in 2017 and both organizations are excited for this reunion.

Bluecoats is grateful to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Cathay Pacific, Pegasus Vanguard, and all of our generous sponsors who make trips like this possible. If you would like to support Bluecoats’ trip, please email us at give@bluecoats.com.
