Bluecoats Community Gathers At Symposium I

On the weekend we hosted the first of two Bluecoats School of the Arts Symposiums scheduled for this fall. These two-day online learning events are the most ambitious learning events ever programmed by Bluecoats. They bring together a roster of award-winning and world-renowned keynote guests, dozens of Bluecoats educators, and hundreds of Bluecoats students!

Symposium I included keynote guests Jens Lindemann, world-renowned trumpet performer and professor; Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, Grammy-award winning drummer; Jim Moore, Emmy and Tony award-winning choreographer; and Greg Lagola, world-renowned fashion designer and choreographer.

Students were able to choose their sessions throughout both days, ensuring they were able to focus on what they wanted to learn. We covered a range of topics, including what to expect from 2021 Bluecoats evaluations and masterclasses focused on brass, percussion, colorguard, and conducting. The entire event took place on our School of the Arts platform, using online conferencing programs. We had as many as 12 separate breakout rooms operating at once!

On Sunday morning, we live streamed dance class on Facebook Live to allow our community to join Symposium I students for stretching and a short dance combo. The video is now available on our Facebook page for anyone who would like to take a free Bluecoats dance class with Bluecoats Movement Supervisor Samia Mooney and Bluecoats Movement Instructor Aylin Vural!

We were thrilled to welcome students from ENRICHment of Stark County to Symposium I. These students attended for free through our Learning Access program, which provides free Bluecoats School of the Arts access to music and dance students at Canton City Schools and ENRICHment.

Symposium II is coming up soon on December 5 and 6! The multiple Grammy award-winning composer, performer, and YouTube star Jacob Collier will join us as our keynote lecturer and we will again be joined by dozens of Bluecoats educators for an incredible event full of learning and fun! We hope to see you there!
