Kevin Shah Joins Bluecoats Team As Music Design Consultant
Renowned composer, designer, educator, and design education advocate Kevin Shah is returning to Bluecoats as a Music Design Consultant. Kevin, who was the Bluecoats Sound Designer from 2010-2013, has since made a major impact in the marching design community through his work with Broken City, Arcadia High School, Vista Murrieta High School and the Blue Knights (2014-19), where he was most recently the Creative Director and a Composer/Arranger. Kevin is passionate about bringing artistic expression to life through composition and re-imagining the world in creative and meaningful ways.
“The addition of Kevin to our music design process just feels natural. The trust established over years of friendship and past collaborations will allow us to seamlessly integrate his extensive design experience and unique artistic sensibility to what we do. Myself, Doug, and Matt couldn’t be more excited about reconnecting with Kevin in this way, and what we’ll create together."
- Tom Rarick, Bluecoats Director of Percussion / Composer / Designer
As a composer for winds and percussion, Kevin owns and operates projectRISEmusic.com, and in early 2021, launched a new educational platform for the marching arts, PRM Workshops. He has directly served hundreds of members of the marching arts community through workshops and resources for marching arts design. Kevin lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife, Erica and their beautiful baby girl, Emryn. He holds a B.M. in percussion performance from UCLA and an M.M. in percussion performance from the Juilliard School.
Kevin’s work at Bluecoats will include working with the music design and percussion teams in a consulting capacity during the pre-season design process as well as throughout the season.
