The Bluecoats Win Silver Medal, Best Percussion At Unforgettable 50th Anniversary DCI World Championships
In a stunning photo finish, the Bluecoats and the Boston Crusaders tied to share the Silver Medal at the 50th Anniversary DCI World Championships in Indianapolis on Saturday. In the first year of competition since 2019, the corps also broke new ground, winning its first-ever Fred Sanford Best Percussion Performance Award.
But competition wasn’t the only thing that made this weekend special for the Bluecoats organization, on Friday night more than 12,000 fans were brought to their feet in a monumental ovation for the Bluecoats Alumni Corps which performed selections from our 50-year history in celebration of our 50th Anniversary. The 430-person alumni corps performed while the Bluecoats “junior corps” looked on from the sideline. They joined the corps in a mass-band encore after the performance - the first of its kind at the DCI World Championships.
“I’m not sure there was a dry eye in the building,” said Mike Scott, CEO of Bluecoats. “Friday night was a night that will be talked about amongst the drum corps community for decades.”
Bluecoats would like to congratulate the Blue Devils on their 20th World Championship, and our fellow silver medalist, the Boston Crusaders on their historic first-ever medal finish. We’re honored to share the podium with these outstanding drum corps.
