Jeff Doll & Darren Elliott Named Recipients of Bluecoats Champion Award

THE BUSINESS LEADERS CHAMPIONED THE COMPLETION OF THE EN-RICH-MENT ARTS EDUCATION CENTER AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS OF THE BUILDING A FUTURE CAMPAIGN. THEY ARE THE THIRD CLASS OF NORTHEAST OHIO ARTS & HUMANITIES LEADERS AWARDED THE PRIZE.

Canton, OH - On Sunday, at the fourth-annual Bluecoats Party in the Plaza Bluecoats CEO Mike Scott announced that the Bluecoats board of directors had named Jeff Doll and Darren Elliott the winners of the 2024 Champion Award. FOunded in 2022, the Champion Award is an honor awarded by the Bluecoats organization to leaders in the Northeast Ohio community whose leadership and service to the community through the arts, culture, and/or community leadership disciplines has positively impacted their community.

These two outstanding leaders made the completion of the EN-RICH-MENT Arts Education Center possible. Both longtime business leaders in Stark County, Darren Elliott and Jeff Doll immediately recognized this ambitious capital project as important to their community, and needing philanthropic leadership. Both offered their company, their time and their resources to the project.

Earlier on Sunday, the Bluecoats and EN-RICH-MENT organizations jointly celebrated the grand opening of the Arts Education Center, which will now provide a permanent home for the free programming of EN-RICH-MENT.

Jeff Doll

Many know Jeff Doll as the owner of Jeff’s Motorcars. However, Jeff is indeed one of the top general contractors in Stark County, specializing in resurrecting old vacant buildings. One of his well-known projects is the mansion that he salvaged and turned into “The Social at the Stone Mansion” restaurant. When Bluecoats started construction on the new EN-RICH- MENT building, Jeff was the first person to volunteer his company’s assistance to do the demolition work. Additionally, he started calling other sub-contractors and building material suppliers and was instrumental in getting them to also donate labor and materials. This resulted in over $200,000 savings on the project. Jeff’s contribution of labor and expertise has definitely helped make the construction of the EN-RICH-MENT Arts Education Center a reality.

Darren Elliott

Darren Elliott, the president of R.T. Hampton Plumbing & Heating (one of the largest HVAC contractors in Stark County), has been instrumental in building the new EN-RICH-MENT Arts Education Center. He donated all the labor and materials for installing the plumbing system, including the fixtures. This resulted in over $300,000 savings on this project. However, he did not stop there. He made phone calls to other sub-contractors and building material retailers he works with and got them to also donate to the project resulting in additional savings. His enthusiasm for helping EN-RICH-MENT’s students has encouraged others to donate. Darren’s contribution of his expertise, labor, and materials contributed greatly to making the EN-RICH-MENT Arts Education Center a reality.

Mike Scott

Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator. He has also served as the tour manager of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Mike proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Etymotic Research, and Fred J. Miller Inc.
