As Bluecoats continues to monitor the developing COVID-19 pandemic situation, and following a public order from Governor Mike DeWine of the State of Ohio, we have begun planning how best to both be global good citizens, and to ensure the health and safety of our program participants, staff, and volunteers. Following the recommendations of the Ohio Department of Health, the Bluecoats organization is moving our April rehearsal camp to an online, attend-from-home event.

The Ohio Department of Health has provided guidance that strongly suggests that conferences and events be moved to online and remote venues. Thanks to an extraordinarily generous effort by Google, all Enterprise-level features of Google Meet, a video and audio conferencing app with G Suite, have been rolled out to G Suite for Nonprofit users like the Bluecoats organization allowing remote work access during this public health crisis. Access to these advanced features will enable Bluecoats to program a thorough event we’re calling April Camp In The Cloud!

“Holding this event online allows the Bluecoats organization to both follow state guidance, promote social distancing, and provide the Bluecoats Experience that our participants and staff expect,” said Mike Scott, CEO of Bluecoats. Plans for the event are still developing, however they include an opportunity for guest speakers, updates on the 2020 tour and summer planning, sectional breakout sessions where staff and caption heads will facilitate masterclasses and score study, and even live one-on-one lessons via video chat.

“During this unprecedented situation, the number one priority of the Bluecoats organization is to promote the health and safety of our participants and community,”  said Genevieve Geisler, MPH CFO/COO of Bluecoats. “Right now, that means following guidance based in science, complying with the advice and orders of the Centers for Disease Control and the Ohio Department of Health, and working to create the Bluecoats Experience in ways that promote our community’s health.”
