Parents Council
The Bluecoats Parents Council is a new way for parents of the drum corps to advance the mission of Bluecoats through philanthropic support, stewardship, and leadership of the parent community.
Parents join the council with a pledge to join The Shield and participate in the council’s annual stewardship and philanthropic activities. The time commitment is flexible, totalling between 8 and 20 hours annually.
-
Parents & guardians in the Parents Council help to build a network of engaged parent partners and families in order to make the Bluecoats Community more engaged, informed, and supportive of the Bluecoats Mission.
Parents do this by stewarding philanthropic support from Bluecoats families, volunteering, and hosting parent events.
-
All families in the Parents Council pledge to make a meaningful recurring commitment to Bluecoats’ giving society The Shield. Members of the council support with a gift at the Helmet level or higher ($1,200 per year).
Parents may also choose to support at a higher level, or make a gift that supports their philanthropic priorities, such as endowed scholarship funds or underwriting Bluecoats programs like Play It Forward or The Bluecoats Fellowship.
-
Families in the Parents Council serve as ambassadors: promoting Bluecoats in their networks, mentoring other, families, planning family events, and advising organizational leadership on the participant and family experience.
In the first year of this new council, the founding families will play a critical role in shaping the output of the committee, including planning its first events and exploring how the Parent Council can make a meaningful impact on the Bluecoats Experience.
-
In addition to a philanthropic commitment, families can expect to commit between 8 and 20 hours per year to the Parents Council. This includes attendance at three Parents Council meetings, participation in fundraising campaign support, and other optional volunteer opportunities like hosting events and assisting with the Volunteer of the Year award and the distribution of the DCI World Championship patches to the corps following each season.
