Bluecoats Announce Executive Restructuring Following 2018 Season
CANTON, OH - The Board of Directors of Bluecoats, a youth performing arts organization based in Canton, Ohio, is pleased to announce a restructuring of the organization’s executive leadership. Board President Scott Swaldo announced that, effective September 1, Mike Scott will assume the position of Bluecoats Chief Executive Officer and Genevieve Geisler will be promoted to Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operations Officer. David Glasgow, who has served as the Executive Director of Bluecoats since August of 2003, has decided to accept a position in the music education products industry. Although he will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of the organization, he has agreed to stay on as Executive Advisor. In addition to his new position with Bluecoats, David will maintain a strong connection to the drum corps activity as he will continue to serve on the Drum Corps International Board of Directors.
“We greatly appreciate Dave giving our organization several months advance notice of his plans and that he will remain in his current role until September 1. Bluecoats made many advances under his excellent leadership including winning the DCI World Championship in 2016,” said Mr. Swaldo. Glasgow was twice named by his peers as the DCI Director of the Year, and was inducted into the Bluecoats Hall of Fame in 2017. “Although in a different position, we look forward to him continuing to serve a meaningful role with the organization for many years to come.”
Mike Scott is currently the Business Development Manager of the Bluecoats and was the Chief Executive Officer of Rhythm X, Inc. a performing arts organization based in Dayton, Ohio. At Rhythm X, he oversaw the growth of the organization from a community-based percussion ensemble, to a music education non-profit hosting a world-class drumline, WGI Winds ensemble, and an open class drumline based in The Netherlands. He is a graduate of Miami University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Business Institute, an accelerated minor in business administration and entrepreneurship. Throughout Mike’s tenure with Bluecoats, he has been a significant contributor to the organization and has demonstrated outstanding organizational and leadership skills that have earned him the CEO position.
Genevieve Geisler has been the Operations Director at Bluecoats since 2006 and the Director of Finance since 2015. She holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Michigan. Genevieve has been a driving force in the growth of the Bluecoats organization over the past twelve years. She has been instrumental in the financial development of the organization, developing and operating BINGO and charitable gaming programs, creating a standard-setting merchandise operation, and improving our financial accounting practices. In addition, she is responsible for the overhaul of both the Bluecoats’ health and wellness program and nutrition and food service program. In her new and expanded role she will be able to further these efforts and serve a significant role in strategic planning.
Scott Swaldo went on to say, “the Bluecoats organization is excited to have Mike and Genevieve assume these positions and we are confident they will provide us with the leadership required to keep our performance groups at the top of the DCI and WGI activity.”
