Key Additions To Bluecoats Educational & Design Teams Announced

October 8, 2018 - CANTON, OH - Today Bluecoats is excited to announce several great additions to its design and educational staff for the 2019 summer season. Joining the design team is Matt Jordan as Music Coordinator & Sound Designer. Matt moves to this new role from his previous position as the Bluecoats’ Associate Music Ensemble Coordinator. Joining the Bluecoats instructional team are Visual Co-Caption Head Jarrod Huntley, Assoc. Music Ensemble Coordinator Dr. David Hall, and Battery Coordinator Joe Hobbs.

These individuals make Bluecoats what we are and ensure the life-changing experience the drum corps provides,” said Mike Scott, Bluecoats CEO. “Whenever we have the opportunity to grow our team we take great care to ensure that we find the absolute best people in the world. We have certainly found that with these individuals,” Scott said.

The remainder of the Bluecoats design and instructional leadership teams will return in 2019. The instructional leadership team includes Music Ensemble Coordinator Ryan Kilgore, Brass Caption Head Derek Gipson, Brass Advisor Dave Mackinnon, Percussion Caption Head Roger Carter, Front Ensemble Coordinator Brad Palmer, Battery Coordinator Ryan Anderson, Visual Co-Caption Head Mike Fanning, and Color Guard Caption Head Lindsay Kusmierczak.

The design team, responsible for such memorable programs as Tilt, Session 44, and the 2016 World Championship program Downside Up, is already hard at work creating the Bluecoats’ 2019 production. The team includes Artistic Director & Visual Designer Jon Vanderkolff, Program Coordinator Dean Westman, Guard Caption Supervisor/Designer

& Choreographer Jim Moore, Costume Designer & Choreographer Greg Lagola, Scenic Designer Michael Raiford, Composer & Percussion Designer Tom Rarick, Composer & Brass Arranger Doug Thrower, Music Coordinator & Sound Designer Matt Jordan, and Audio Systems Designer Aaron Beck.

Mike Scott
Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator. He has also served as the tour manager of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Mike proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Etymotic Research, and Fred J. Miller Inc.
