Schedule Announced for Second-Annual Bluecoats Party in the Plaza

Bluecoats PARTY IN THE PLAZA IS BACK, AND THIS YEAR WE’RE CELEBRATING 50 YEARS IN CANTON!

After a hugely successful first year, Bluecoats Party in the Plaza is returning to Canton’s Centennial Plaza. The event will again feature a jam-packed day of music, food, and family-friendly fun plus some exciting new additions!

8:00 PM - FREE BLUECOATS CONCERT!

Of course, this wouldn’t be Party in the Plaza without the Bluecoats! See the 50th-anniversary edition of the corps perform their 2022 production in a free concert under the lights at Centennial Plaza. The free concert starts at 8:00 PM. Bring your own chair or blankets!

2:00 PM - FREE! EDUCATIONAL BUCKET DRUMMING CIRCLE

Catch Elec Simon teaching this free kid-friendly bucket drumming circle clinic for one hour at 2:00 PM. We’ll bring the sticks and buckets, you bring yourself and family and friends!

3:00 PM - RZ JAZZ!

Musician and Bluecoats alum Rich Zabinski will take the stage with a 6-piece Jazz Band! They’ll be playing fun takes on Bluecoats tunes through the decades.

5:00 PM - EN-RICH-MENT DRUMLINE!

For several years, Bluecoats has partnered with En-Rich-Ment of Stark County to support the En-Rich-Ment Drumline! Now, watch as Centennial Plaza comes to life with this special performance by the En-Rich-Ment Drumline.

5:25 PM - MATT COREY BAND RETURNS!

Canton’s very own Matt Corey and his incredible band will join us once again for an incredible free concert on the Centennial Plaza stage!

6:40 PM - THE SCENIC ROUTE RETURNS!

A classic Canton favorite, catch The Scenic Route as they light up Centennial Plaza. Bring your family, grab dinner and drinks at Jerzees, and enjoy the fun while we Party in the Plaza! …and immediately following The Scenic Route, catch the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps performing a standstill of their 2022 production!

8:00 PM - ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 2022 CHAMPION AWARD

New this year, the Bluecoats concert will feature the award ceremony for the 2022 Champion Award where the Bluecoats organization will annually honor Northeast Ohio leaders and advocates of the arts, culture, and humanities.

Mike Scott
Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator. He has also served as the tour manager of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Mike proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Etymotic Research, and Fred J. Miller Inc.
