In this issue, we are proud to introduce Tom Scheck, Randall Lamb, and Zach Young.
Tom Scheck, Bluecoats Board Treasurer
Tom Scheck
Board Treasurer
Tom Scheck joined the Bluecoats Board of Directors in 2000, served for six years, and returned to the board in 2016 after moving back to the area. He is a retired Global Sales Development Manager from Eurotherm, a division of Schneider Electric, where he worked with industrial temperature and process control systems serving industries including glass, pharmaceuticals, heat treatment, plastics, and semiconductors. Tom currently serves as the treasurer of the Bluecoats Board of Directors. He is also a board member of EN-RICH-MENT, reflecting his continued commitment to nonprofit leadership and community involvement.
Tom’s connection to drum corps began in 1969 when he attended the U.S. Open in Marion, Ohio on a high school band field trip and was immediately hooked. His family’s connection deepened in 1999 when his youngest son earned a spot with the Bluecoats at just 15 years old, which led Tom and his wife to begin volunteering and staying involved ever since. Serving on the board gives him the opportunity to give back to an activity he enjoys and an organization he deeply admires. Outside of his board service, Tom enjoys designing kitchens, remodels, and home additions for friends and family, and he once spent four years restoring a 1938 Dodge pickup truck.
Tom’s Favorite Bluecoats moment: “I have had many great moments with the Bluecoats but my favorite was the alumni corps performance at the end of semifinals at Lucas Oil Stadium. First of all the sound and the power they had was incredible and the music they played was like a greatest hits album. The show was pretty special to my wife and I because our son, who marched from 1999 to 2003 was out on the field. It was really spectacular.”
Randall Lamb, Bluecoats Board Secretary
Randall Lamb
Board Secretary
Randall Lamb joined the Bluecoats Board of Directors after a long career dedicated to music education. He served as Director of Bands at Newark High School from 1980 to 2008, following earlier roles at Carlisle High School and Morehead State University, and in 2025 was honored with the naming of the school’s turf field as Randall Lamb Field. Randall holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Dayton and a Master of Music degree from Morehead State University. His extensive volunteer service includes founding membership on the Heisey Wind Ensemble Board of Directors, participation in regional orchestras and ensembles, and service as an adjudicator and state board member with the Ohio Music Education Association.
Randall’s connection to the Bluecoats is rooted in his students and family, with many former band members marching in top drum corps and his son serving as a percussion instructor, including eight seasons with the Bluecoats. Serving on the board allows him to give back to an organization he believes provides positive, life-changing experiences for young people. He values the dedication and character of band and corps students and the impact music has on their lives. Outside of music education, Randall enjoys playing guitar daily and spending time shooting trap and long-distance precision shooting.
Randall’s Favorite Bluecoats moment: “My favorite Bluecoats show is…the next one! Favorite moment would be finals placement announcement in 2016.”
Zach Young, Bluecoats Director At Large
Zach Young
Director At Large
Bluecoats Years Marched: 1998-2000
Zach Young joined the Bluecoats Board of Directors in 2021. He is Vice President at Young Trucks, a Canton-based truck dealership, where he focuses on operations with an emphasis on IT and accounting while supporting continuous improvement across the business. Zach holds a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University and an MBA in Sustainability from Pinchot University. While the Bluecoats are his primary nonprofit commitment, Young Trucks also strongly supports the local Habitat for Humanity.
Zach’s connection to the Bluecoats began as a member of the baritone section from 1998 to 2000, and his family ties and Young Trucks’ long-standing support of the organization continue that legacy. Serving on the board is an honor for him, and he is especially focused on supporting the corps’ operations through equipment and logistical support, including responsibility for outside-of-venue operations for Innovation In Brass. He lives in Cleveland with his wife Lauren and their dog Glitzy, enjoys international travel with an emphasis on cultural engagement, and competes casually in age-group triathlons, including sprint, Olympic, and half Ironman races.
Zach’s Favorite Bluecoats moment: “Quite notable in my memory is performing in the Bluecoats Alumni Corps at Semi-finals in 2022. Ever since I heard The Boxer in 2008, I was jealous of the incredible sound and being able to perform that piece was a highlight. When we took the field, I didn't think much of the crowd's reaction, since usually an alumni corps isn't exactly a highlight of the show. But, hearing the crowd's reaction to us right after the first hit in The Boxer felt like a visceral wave of energy hitting us. For the rest of the show, the energy in that stadium was incredible. It was truly an amazing experience and I call it a Top 10 Day of Life.”
