2024 Diversity & Socioeconomic Impact Report

Read The Report

In July 2020, we promised to create an annual report on the demographic and socioeconomic impact of Bluecoats programs, the diversity of our team, and the progress of our initiatives to advance inclusion and equity within our organization.

This is our fifth year of building this report—you can view previous reports here.

Each year, we use this data to get a more quantitative snapshot of our organization’s impact and programmatic reach. As you explore this report, we hope that you’ll see how our various educational programs broaden our impact and reach more students from a diverse array of backgrounds.
— Genevieve Geisler, CFO / COO

Drum corps still has significant disparities in demographics and, as our data shows, Bluecoats is not much different - with far more male and white performers than others. Bluecoats is committed to continuing to learn more about why this is and how we can work towards more balance. Statistical analysis of the data we collect can help us determine where the disconnect is and make data-driven decisions moving forward. Our DIAC team did a chi-square test to determine if there is a statistically significant difference between the number of marginalized auditionees and the number of marginalized contracted performers. Our results show that although the demographics of our contracted performers skew to more privileged demographics, the demographic ratios are consistent with auditionees.

Following the data in this report, you will find a summary of the current initiatives to advance a more inclusive culture at Bluecoats. These initiatives include the Bluecoats Fellowship, the building of the EN-RICH-MENT Education Center, Play It Forward, and more. Read them all in the report.
