Bluecoats Hosting Clinic Performance at PASIC!

The 2021 Bluecoats Percussion Ensemble will be presenting a clinic performance at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) this November!

Tom Rarick (Bluecoats Composer/Percussion Designer) and Dr. Matt Jordan (Bluecoats Music Coordinator/Sound Designer) will be on hand to provide a guided tour of our 2021 production Lucy—the second act to our 2019 production, The Bluecoats. Our PASIC clinic will explore the compositional processes utilized to create these productions, and highlight the integration of acoustic percussion and electronic sound design that is a hallmark of the Bluecoats aesthetic.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to showcase the Bluecoats percussion program at PASIC 2021! Presenting a clinic to such a diverse collection of artists, educators, and enthusiasts; as well as performing our 2021 production “Lucy” one final time, promises to be a special experience for all.” - Tom Rarick (Bluecoats Composer/Percussion Designer)

In addition to presenting highlights from Lucy, Percussion Caption Head Roger Carter and Front Ensemble Coordinator Allen Justus will lead the Percussion Ensemble through the exercises and etudes that create and maintain the continuity of approach from our technique regimen to the performance field. A particular focal point will be “Syvåtte,” a piece composed by Carter and debuted this summer that features the integration of relentless 7/8 battery stylings with an electronic backing track.

The 2021 Bluecoats Percussion Ensemble will be taking the stage on Saturday, November 13 at 1pm! Check out the full PASIC lineup here.
