Introducing the Bluecoats Band of Excellence, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame

BLUECOATS AND THE PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME ARE PARTNERING TO PRODUCE A NATIONAL MARCHING HONOR BAND THAT WILL PERFORM AT 2019 HALL OF FAME GAME

12 April 2019 - CANTON, OH - For as long as anyone can remember, marching band and football have gone hand in hand. That’s why Bluecoats, a world-renowned performing arts education organization, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame are teaming up to celebrate “Excellence EVERYWHERE” during the 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival. On July 31st and August 1st, the Bluecoats Band of Excellence will take the field for a two-day event of learning, performing, and experiencing the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival!

Some of America’s finest young marching band performers will converge on Canton, OH and take the world stage as they perform pregame alongside the Bluecoats at the 2019 NFL Hall of Fame Game! The Band of Excellence is open to any high school student who plays a marching band instrument or who performs in the colorguard. The students will experience two days of learning with the world-renowned educational team at Bluecoats. They’ll even rehearse with the 2019 Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps! After two days of rehearsal and exploration of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival, the Bluecoats Band of Excellence will take the field alongside the 2019 Bluecoats to perform pregame at a real live NFL preseason game!

“Bluecoats and the Pro Football Hall of Fame have been Canton neighbors for our entire history,” said Mike Scott, CEO of Bluecoats. “Not only do we share Canton as a home, but we share a vision for celebrating excellence in our fields. The Bluecoats Band of Excellence is the perfect way to bring students who love marching band to the world stage and to our shared home of Canton, OH!”

Registration opens today for the two-day camp, which includes rehearsal and meals at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as one night’s accommodation in dormitories for all students. Registration is open to any student that plays a marching band instrument or who spins colorguard equipment. The Band of Excellence experience ends with a bang, as students take the field alongside the Bluecoats, and perform during pregame of the Atlanta Falcons vs. Denver Broncos preseason game on August 1 at Tom Benson stadium in Canton, OH.

Mike Scott
Mike Scott is a clinician, consultant, and the CEO of Rhythm X, Inc., a non-profit music education company in Dayton, Ohio. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. There he studied percussion and conducting and completed the Farmer School of Business Summer Institute. Before beginning his career as an administrator and teacher, Mike was an active performer in the marching arts. In 2011 Mike was the conductor of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps of Canton, Ohio and was a performer in Rhythm X’s percussion ensemble from 2011-2012. Mike was also a member of the Miami University Marching Band for four years, serving as the drum major during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2013 Mike began work at Rhythm X, Inc. as the Operations Director, managing the business development and logistics of the organization. He was also the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There he taught band, orchestra, and general music in grades 6-12. Prior to the 2015 competitive season, Mike became the first full-time employee at Rhythm X, Inc. as the company’s CEO. There he works with the organization’s President Tim Fairbanks to develop the future strategy of the company. During the summer months, Mike travels the country with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps as the group’s Tour Administrator. He has also served as the tour manager of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Mike proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Etymotic Research, and Fred J. Miller Inc.
